Adobe Adds Unified AI Tools Mode to Photoshop Beta

Adobe has unveiled AI Assisted Editor, an alternative interface that brings Photoshop’s AI tools into a single toolbar, alongside new tools for defining edit areas and adjusting lighting.

Adobe is adding more artificial intelligence tools to Photoshop through a new mode called AI Assisted Editor, now available in Beta. Users can still work in the existing Pro Editor, so the new mode does not replace the full professional interface.

AI Assisted Editor brings AI-related features together in a single toolbar, reducing the need to search through menus. Users can edit images with natural-language instructions using Prompt to Edit, as well as remove backgrounds, add content with Generative Fill, extend images with Generative Expand, and increase resolution with Generative Upscale.

Adobe has also added AI Markup, which lets users draw on an image to indicate where changes should be made. This gives the system clearer guidance than text instructions alone. Meanwhile, Instruct Edit with Masks allows users to define edit boundaries with a Mask—a selected area controlling which parts of the image are affected—to improve precision and reduce unintended changes elsewhere.

The update is not limited to generative AI features. Adobe has added a Light adjustment layer for fine-tuning lighting settings such as Exposure, or overall brightness, and Contrast, or the difference between light and dark areas. The company compares this level of control to editing RAW files. Because these adjustments are applied as a layer, users can easily reverse or refine them later.

For privacy and workflow flexibility, users can switch to or hide AI Assisted Editor through the settings. Making it an optional mode reflects Adobe’s effort to support both users who want quick image editing through natural-language commands and existing users who still need detailed control over tools and layers.

However, AI Assisted Editor remains in Beta, so its results and workflow may change before the full release. Professional users should review every AI-generated or AI-edited image, particularly object edges, fine details, and areas where fidelity to the original must be preserved.
