Slate Auto Partners with Crayola to Launch Color-Changing Wraps for Electric Pickups, Injecting Color into the EV World
EV startup Slate announces a creative collaboration with renowned crayon brand Crayola, launching a set of 5 color-changing wraps for owners to customize their pickups.
Slate Auto, an electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Jeff Bezos, known for its minimalist concept and customer customization options, has announced an unexpected collaboration with Crayola, the globally recognized crayon brand. They will launch a series of vehicle wraps inspired by Crayola's classic crayon collection. This collaboration will feature 5 vibrant color kits: Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz, and Dandelion, each priced at $1,549.99 USD. Each kit includes not only the vehicle wrap but also matching decals, a same-colored key fob cover, and a small dashboard ornament Slate calls a "Slatelet," ensuring a cohesive theme. This concept aligns with Slate's philosophy, which began by selling a base model electric pickup for $24,950 USD, delivered in an unpainted gray finish from the factory, offering a 205-mile (approximately 330 km) range per charge. Ben Whitla, Slate's Head of Brand and Marketing, stated, "The Slate pickup is like a blank canvas, designed for customization and giving people the freedom to make it their own." For Crayola, this also marks a significant step, as it's the brand's first official collaboration with an automotive manufacturer in its history. A Crayola executive stated in a press release, "We are thrilled to partner with Slate on our very first automotive collaboration." This partnership is thus one of the most interesting and unexpected brand pairings in the automotive sector recently.
This collaboration reflects a new trend in the electric vehicle market, where manufacturers are increasingly focusing on customization and creating unique identities for users, beyond competing on performance and range.
