Google rebrands NotebookLM to 'Gemini Notebook,' integrates AI ecosystem and adds data analysis code execution

Google has officially renamed its AI research and note-taking tool, NotebookLM, to Gemini Notebook to reflect a deeper integration within the Gemini ecosystem.

Google has rebranded its AI research and summarization tool, formerly NotebookLM, to "Gemini Notebook." This change is effective immediately and represents a strategic shift to unify its AI products under the stronger Gemini brand. Despite the new name, Gemini Notebook will continue to function as a standalone research-focused tool.

First introduced at Google I/O 2023 under the codename "Project Tailwind," the tool has grown rapidly, now serving over 30 million users and 600,000 organizations. The major update, alongside the rebrand, adds a powerful new feature: each notebook now comes with a "secure cloud computer" that can write and execute code to analyze complex data, such as processing large datasets or generating data visualizations.

This code execution feature is now available for Google AI Ultra subscribers and Google Workspace customers with AI Ultra and AI Expanded Access; Pro users will gain access in the coming weeks. Google also plans to integrate Gemini Notebook into the AI Mode of Google Search soon. For existing users, previously shared notebook links will continue to function via automatic redirects, and users will see the new name and logo roll out over the next few weeks.
