Rewiring Australia teams up with Google to launch "Electric Saul", a free AI tool helping households plan home electrification
Non-profit Rewiring Australia, in partnership with Google, has launched a free AI tool called "Electric Saul" to help Australian households calculate and plan the transition from fossil fuels to electric energy.
Named Electric Saul, the tool was developed by non-profit organization Rewiring Australia with funding and technological support from Google's Digital Future Initiative, powered by the Gemini Flash AI model running on Google Cloud.
A key highlight of Electric Saul is that it is trained on the knowledge and research of Dr. Saul Griffith, an energy expert and co-founder of Rewiring Australia. Users simply input basic information such as their postcode, housing status (homeowner or renter), and existing household appliances or energy systems. The system then evaluates and generates a personalized plan.
The resulting plan recommends a step-by-step transition for household appliances—such as heat pumps, solar panels, energy storage batteries, or electric vehicles—to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and natural gas, while estimating potential savings on electricity bills.
The tool is free to use via electricsaul.com and is tailored for homeowners and renters in Australia looking to cut energy bills and carbon emissions without knowing where to start or which equipment to upgrade first.
Although designed for the Australian context, this serves as another compelling example of using AI to translate energy research data into practical, actionable advice for everyday households.
This is an interesting approach to leveraging AI for household energy transition and bill reduction planning. Similar tools could eventually emerge in Thailand, though availability is currently limited to Australia.
