Apple Music to mandate "Made With AI" labels for AI-generated tracks
Apple Music has emailed industry partners announcing a mandatory "Made With AI" label for music significantly created by artificial intelligence, aiming to enhance listener transparency.
The Hollywood Reporter, 9to5Mac, and Music Business Worldwide (MBW) report that Apple has emailed music industry partners, including labels and distributors, preparing them for the rollout of "Made With AI" labels visible to all Apple Music users within the year.
Under this guideline, any content created using generative AI in a material portion—including tracks entirely produced by AI—must be properly identified. Rather than using automated detection systems on its end, Apple will require labels and distributors to take responsibility for embedding "AI Transparency Tags" into the track metadata prior to submission.
Back in March, Apple introduced Transparency Tags as an optional system allowing creators to specify their use of AI in cover art, vocals, musical components (lyrics), and music videos. However, the latest email indicates these tags will become mandatory whenever AI is used to create a substantial part of the content.
This measure increases transparency, allowing listeners to clearly distinguish between human-made and AI-generated music, which could set a new standard for music streaming platforms globally, including in Thailand.
