On August 26, 2026, Bill Gates published an approximately 6,000-word analysis on his personal blog, GatesNotes, arguing that the world is entering a turbulent age of artificial intelligence (AI) that could become one of the most chaotic periods in human history.
Gates said AI could either become the greatest tool for advancing equality or a source of unprecedented injustice. He also proposed a key concept called Human Reserved, which would designate certain jobs exclusively for people and prevent companies from replacing human workers with AI so quickly that it triggers a labor crisis.
He also called for an AI tax and urged governments and international organizations to begin serious preparations, warning that current plans remain inadequate to address rapidly evolving risks such as unemployment and the misuse of AI power.
