FL Studio CEO Reveals Organizational Culture: Listening to Users via Forums and Reddit is Core to Success
Constantin Koehncke, CEO of Image-Line, developer of the renowned music production software FL Studio, affirms that directly listening to feedback from the user community has always been part of the company's DNA.
Constantin Koehncke, CEO of Image-Line, the developer of FL Studio (formerly known as Fruity Loops to older music producers), revealed their close user community engagement approach. He stated that the company utilizes official forums and platforms like Reddit as key tools for gathering feedback and suggestions to inform software development.
Koehncke, who took over as CEO in October 2022 and has over 12 years of experience in music technology at Native Instruments, stated: "We have a very close bond with our user community... it's part of the company's DNA to build FL Studio this way." He cited examples such as opening threads for users to preview new UI designs and gather feedback, which is standard practice for the company. These discussions also extend to other platforms like Reddit, where users post a variety of questions, including the possibility of FL Studio on game consoles like PS5 or Xbox.
This open working approach appears to have greatly benefited the popularity of FL Studio, one of the most accessible Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) in the market. Koehncke revealed that FL Studio currently sees up to 30,000 new downloads daily, with tens of millions of creators activating the program each year, reflecting a continuously growing large user base.
FL Studio is highly popular music production software in Thailand. The fact that top management directly values user feedback reflects an interesting organizational culture and might be a key reason behind its sustained success.
