Spotify Unveils 'Talk to Spotify,' a New AI Chatbot Feature Allowing Users to Search and Control Music Through Conversation
The music streaming giant is testing a new limited-release feature, enabling Premium users to type or speak with the app to search and manage music, podcasts, and audiobooks more naturally.
Spotify has begun experimenting with a new feature that transforms the app into an intelligent conversational partner called 'Talk to Spotify.' This AI chatbot allows users to search and control media playback through chat. The feature expands the app's AI capabilities beyond the existing AI DJ, letting users initiate conversations with Spotify directly from both the Home and Now Playing screens on the mobile application.
Usage supports both text input and voice commands. Users can engage in interactive conversations to help the AI better understand and select the next desired song. Additionally, specific commands can be used, such as asking the app to save the current song, add a song to the queue, or follow favorite artists instantly through conversation.
Initially, the 'Talk to Spotify' feature is in beta. It will be gradually rolled out to eligible Premium users aged over 18 in select countries, including the United States, Ireland, and Sweden, for testing on both iOS and Android operating systems.
Behind this technology, Spotify states it uses a multi-model approach, a collaboration between its in-house developed AI systems and Large Language Models from external providers, to efficiently handle different tasks. However, the company has not yet disclosed which model providers are being used.
Even though it's not yet available in Thailand, this feature clearly indicates the direction AI is taking to change how we interact with everyday apps, moving from button presses to more fluid and natural conversations.
