Tiptap, the developers behind the text editor framework trusted by tech giants like GitLab, Axios, and PostHog, has officially launched its latest product, "Tiptap AI Toolkit," on Product Hunt, marking the company’s 9th major launch.
The standout feature of the AI Toolkit is a paradigm shift: moving away from AI that generates text in isolated chat boxes toward AI that can "read and write" directly within documents in real-time, acting like a true collaborator. By understanding the user's selection state, document structure, and surrounding context, the AI achieves high-precision editing.
Key features include Document Awareness, which allows AI to distinguish and edit specific document segments—such as modifying a specific paragraph, updating table data, or adjusting headings. Another major strength is Server-side editing, enabling AI agents to process edits even when a user is offline; changes sync seamlessly via Tiptap’s Collaboration service once the user returns.
Technically, Tiptap AI Toolkit is designed with high flexibility and is entirely model-agnostic. Developers can connect to various Large Language Models (LLMs), including OpenAI (GPT), Claude, Mistral, Llama, or self-hosted models. Currently in production-ready beta, Tiptap is celebrating the launch by offering a lifetime license (with a 100,000 monthly tool-call quota) to the first 100 users who sign up and provide feedback.
