Deutsche Telekom (DT), one of the world's largest telecommunications companies with over 300 million customers and more than 200,000 employees globally, has announced a deep collaboration with OpenAI to accelerate its transformation into a fully 'AI-native telco.' The partnership, officially announced on December 9, 2025, aims to leverage AI's potential to enhance service delivery across all dimensions. At the core of this partnership is the organization-wide implementation of ChatGPT Enterprise to empower employees across various functions, from customer service to network operations. Deutsche Telekom is among the first companies worldwide to gain alpha access to OpenAI's AI models, enabling it to develop new use cases ahead of others. Pilot programs are set to begin in Q1 2026, with full-scale deployment expected in the second half of the same year. The application of AI will encompass several concrete areas, such as developing AI assistants for customer service staff capable of live language translation during conversations, assisting with complex information retrieval, and automatically summarizing key points after calls. Furthermore, in network management, DT will use AI to analyze and dynamically adjust network resources in real-time, improving operational efficiency and responsiveness to usage demands. According to OpenAI's blog, over 50,000 DT employees currently use ChatGPT and API tools monthly, and internal AI tool usage has increased by 546% since early 2026, reflecting widespread adoption of the new technology within the organization. However, these usage statistics originate solely from OpenAI and have not been independently verified.
