Major Claude Update Unifies Chat and Cowork Memory, Eliminating Repetitive Context
Anthropic rolls out a major update enabling Claude to share memory seamlessly between Chat and Cowork, removing the need for redundant user briefings.
On August 25, 2026, Anthropic announced a major update to Claude's memory system, unifying memory across Claude Chat and Claude Cowork. Information Claude learns during chat conversations can now immediately inform work in Cowork, and vice versa.
The update is designed to eliminate the friction of repeatedly explaining project details, preferences, or context. The new system remembers information in real time during conversations, rather than waiting for a chat session to end before summarizing.
For user control and privacy, memories can be reviewed, edited, or deleted via the settings menu. Additionally, sensitive topics such as health, religion, politics, or race are not recorded automatically unless users manually enable the "include sensitive topics in memory" option.
Unified memory is enabled by default for Free, Pro, and Max tier users across web, desktop, and mobile apps, as reported by tech outlets including TechCrunch, Engadget, The New Stack, and 9to5Mac.
