Meta unveils AI 'Muse Image', capable of generating images using others' Instagram profiles

Meta officially launched 'Muse Image', the first AI image generation model from its Superintelligence Labs division, last Tuesday. It is now available in the image generation tools on Meta AI, Instagram, and WhatsApp apps, with plans to expand to Facebook and Messenger soon. A key feature of Muse Image is that users can use the '@' symbol to mention or tag others' public Instagram accounts in a prompt, allowing the AI to retrieve image data from that profile and create new images—for example, generating an image of a friend in an astronaut suit. It's important to note that this feature is on by default, but all Instagram account owners can access their settings to opt-out at any time to prevent others from using their account to generate images. However, this feature only works with public accounts and cannot pull data from private accounts.

Why it matters
This feature could raise concerns about privacy and the unauthorized direct use of images. Instagram users in Thailand should therefore check their account settings if they do not wish for others to use their profile to generate AI images.
