Google Launches agents-cli, a New Tool to Help AI Create 'AI Agents' on the Cloud
This new tool from Google Cloud helps developers and AI coding assistants create and manage AI agents more easily and quickly.
Google introduced a new developer tool called ‘agents-cli’ at Google Cloud Next '26 on April 22. It quickly gained attention, garnering over 1,000 stars on GitHub within the first 48 hours. Agents-cli is a Command-Line Interface (CLI) tool designed to enable 'AI coding agents' or AI coding assistants like Gemini CLI, Claude Code, and Cursor to expertly create and manage AI agents on the Google Cloud platform. It essentially provides a specialized toolkit for AI to directly interact with the cloud system. The tool works with the Agent Development Kit (ADK) and allows developers to create, test, and deploy production-ready AI agents in under an hour. Currently, agents-cli is in Pre-GA (Pre-General Availability) status, meaning it's not a final version and has limited support.
This tool will accelerate the development of complex AI applications on Google Cloud, allowing developers to build specialized 'AI assistants' faster, potentially leading to new services and tools in the future.
